How to Make Your Diaper Cake
After you have collected all of your ingredients to make a diaper cake your are ready to begin the project that will be a Great gift to the Mommy-To-Be and A key piece to the décor of the baby shower!
Starting your Diaper Cake:First you secure your paper towel tube onto the middle of the diaper cake base, which is your cardboard disk or tray. Start to roll as many diapers as you think you will need for the size of diaper cake you are creating. Secure each Diaper with a rubber band, yarn or the narrow ribbon. Don’t worry about not rolling enough diapers you can always roll some more if needed. Next Stand the Diapers up vertically around your paper towel roll or whatever you chose to use as the centerpiece. Then to hold them in place tie a narrow ribbon or yarn around them to create your first circle of diapers. Stand a second row of rolled and secured diapers, and hold these in place as well. You will then repeat this step until you have the width you want for your first tier. Make sure you tie your ribbon or yarn around each circle of diapers to hold tight in place. After you repeat this step a few times you will have circles within circles. Starting your second tier now should be simple. Create another circle of vertically standing secured diapers around the paper towel tube and on top of the first tier. Then take the yarn or ribbon like before and secure the completed circle. Repeat this process of securing rolled diapers in complete circles until the second tier is completed. Remember the second tier is smaller then the first tier. It should look like a tower. (The bottom tier is the biggest and every tier on top is smaller then the tier under it) Finally, If you are creating a three tier diaper cake you are almost done! Start you final tier by repeating the steps from the first and second tier. The third tier will be on top of the second tier and smaller than the previous two layers. Now to decorate and complete your diaper cake take the wider ribbon around each completed tier. You can tie a pretty bow to add style or tape the ribbon so it’s a continuous circle around the completed tier. The purpose of this ribbon is to cover the rubber bands or yarn that was used securing the diapers. It will also serve as another security for the layers to stay tight in place. Decorating the diaper cake you will tuck the small baby items into the wide ribbon and top the cake with one of the softer baby gifts like the teddy bear or rubber ducky. You can also use a onesie rolled up as one of the diapers. You decorate the cake to your personal liking.
